SailTies started as a free digital sailing logbook. It was founded by Chris and Tom, two RYA-qualified sailors in the UK, one a designer and one a developer, and the company behind it, Sail Ties Ltd, is registered in Bristol. The app records your voyages as you sail, keeps your track, crew and photos together, builds a sailor resume of your miles and lets family follow along with a live link. Crew Match connects skippers looking for crew with sailors who want time on the water. The logbook is free, and SailTies Plus, at £34.99 a year, adds weather on voyages, speed analysis, a 3D globe and no adverts.
SailTies Adventures is its booking side: single berths and cabins on skippered trips run by independent charter businesses and sailing schools, picked by its head of commercial trips, Mike Pickering. Listings run from RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses on the Solent to share-a-yacht flotilla weeks in Greece, offshore races, mile-building passages and Caribbean and Arctic expeditions. Each trip shows its experience level, what's included and the operator's terms.
Trips are priced per person in the operator's own currency, which can be pounds, euros or US dollars. Flights, insurance and most meals ashore are usually extra, and SailTies recommends travel insurance.
