WorldRemit is an international money transfer service, founded in London in 2010 by Ismail Ahmed with Catherine Wines and Richard Igoe. It's now part of Zepz, which also owns Sendwave. WorldRemit Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (registration number 900891), and the company says it serves millions of customers in 130-plus countries and more than 70 currencies.
It works entirely online, on the website or the iOS and Android apps. You choose the country, the amount and how the money should arrive. Depending on the country, the person can receive it straight into a bank account, collect cash at a pickup point, get it in a mobile money wallet, or receive airtime on a pre-paid phone. Fees and the exchange rate are shown before you pay, and you pay by bank transfer, debit card or credit card. Many transfers arrive within minutes, and you can track each one.
Popular destinations from the UK include Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, India, Pakistan and the Philippines, and the person receiving the money doesn't need a WorldRemit account. You do need to verify who you are when you sign up, usually with a one-time code, photo ID and a selfie.
