About The Trussell Trust
The Trussell Trust, now known as Trussell, is an anti-poverty charity that supports a network of food banks across the UK. It was founded in 1997 by Paddy and Carol Henderson, and opened its first food bank in Salisbury in 2000.
Food banks in its network give emergency food and support to people who cannot afford essentials, helped by volunteers, churches and community groups. The charity also runs a helpline offering advice to people in financial hardship, publishes research on hunger, and campaigns to end the need for food banks.
What they do
- Supports a UK-wide network of food banks providing emergency food
- Runs the Help through Hardship helpline for people struggling financially
- Publishes research and statistics on hunger and poverty
- Campaigns for changes so people can afford the essentials
