Costa Club: free drinks, reusable cups and birthday cake
Costa Club explained: collect 10 beans for a free drink, earn an extra bean with a reusable cup and check birthday cake reward rules.

Costa Club uses Beans rather than a traditional coupon code. If you regularly buy barista-made drinks, it is worth understanding how quickly Beans add up, what a reusable cup changes and which rewards have a short expiry window.
Ten Beans earn a free drink
Costa says eligible customers receive one Bean for each qualifying barista-made drink, and ten Beans can be redeemed for a free drink. The app now also offers swaps that use fewer Beans for certain drink add-ons. Check the wallet before you redeem; a free drink may be more valuable to you than using Beans for small extras.
Reusable cups can double the speed
Costa Club members who buy qualifying barista-made drinks in their reusable cup earn an extra Bean on top of the usual one. That can mean ten Beans after five eligible drinks, instead of ten, provided the reusable-cup conditions are met. This is a particularly clear saving for someone who already owns a reusable cup and buys Costa regularly.
Birthday cake reward: eligibility matters
Costa says members who enter a valid birthday and agree to receive marketing communications can receive a free sweet treat around their birthday. The reward is displayed in the app, has a short redemption window and excludes whole cakes. If you opt out or have not added your birthday, do not assume the reward will appear.
How not to lose your Beans
- Scan your Costa Club app at the time of every eligible purchase.
- Check the reward screen for Beans, Swaps and exact expiry dates.
- The standard free-drink reward lasts three months after issue, according to Costa’s help pages.
- Bean balances can lapse after 12 months of no qualifying account activity.
- Check venue restrictions: Costa Express and Northern Ireland availability may differ from ordinary Great Britain stores.
What is better: Beans or a promotional code?
An app-only money-off deal is useful for today, while Beans accumulate value over several visits. If a promotion changes how Beans are earned, read its terms. For a delivery order, first check whether the platform is linked to Costa Club and whether fees outweigh any promotion.
