Sensereo vs Netatmo and FireAngel: smart smoke and CO alarms compared

Matter alarms that work with Apple, Google and SmartThings, a seven-year warranty and a portable CO detector for camping. Here's where Sensereo beats Netatmo and FireAngel, and where it doesn't.

Most homes have a smoke alarm that beeps when the battery runs low and does little else. Smart alarms go further: they send an alert to your phone, can be silenced from an app, and in some cases tell you how much carbon monoxide is in the air. Sensereo is a newer name in this space. It makes smoke and smoke-and-CO alarms that connect using Matter over Thread, plus Bastion, a rechargeable carbon monoxide detector for tents, campervans and cabins.

We've compared Sensereo with two brands UK shoppers are likely to come across: Netatmo, which sells Wi-Fi smart smoke and CO alarms, and FireAngel, a long-established British alarm maker. Every detail comes from each brand's own website, and prices were checked on 27 October 2026.

At a glance

  • Works with the big smart home platforms: Sensereo's alarms use Matter over Thread, which it says works with Apple Home, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
  • Smoke and CO in one smart unit: the MSC-1 detects both and shows a live CO reading in ppm.
  • Seven-year warranty on the MS-1, MS-1 Interlink and MSC-1 alarms.
  • A portable CO detector with a 1600mAh rechargeable battery and USB-C charging, built for camping and travel.
  • The trade-offs: prices are shown in US dollars, smart features need a Thread border router, and non-faulty returns carry fees.

One alarm that talks to every smart home app

Sensereo's biggest strength is that it isn't tied to its own ecosystem. Its alarms use Matter, the shared smart home standard, over a Thread network, and the company says they work with Apple Home, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings. If you already have an Apple TV, a HomePod or another Thread hub, the alarm can sit alongside your lights and sensors in the app you already use.

Netatmo's alarms connect over your home Wi-Fi and send alerts through Netatmo's own Home + Security app. That's simple, but it's another app to keep on your phone.

Sensereo's alarms still work as ordinary standalone alarms without a hub. You only need a Thread border router for the smart features.

Smoke and carbon monoxide in a single device

The Sensereo MSC-1 combines a photoelectric smoke chamber with an electrochemical CO sensor, and it's certified to EN 14604 for smoke and EN 50291 for CO. It also shows a live CO reading in parts per million, so you can see the level rather than waiting for an alarm.

Netatmo sells smoke and CO as separate devices, at £89.99 each or £169.99 for the pair. Sensereo lists the MSC-1 at an early-bird price of $69.99 for one unit doing both jobs. FireAngel's SCB10-R also combines smoke and CO at £40, but its page doesn't describe it as a connected alarm.

A seven-year warranty

Sensereo covers the MS-1, MS-1 Interlink and MSC-1 for seven years, which matches the sealed battery's seven-year life. FireAngel shows a three-year warranty on both the SCB10-R and FA6813. Netatmo's product pages mention a battery life of up to 10 years but don't state a warranty length.

If you want several alarms around the house, the MS-1 Interlink ($59.99) links to other Interlink alarms on the same Thread network automatically, with no pairing between units.

Bastion: a CO detector you can take camping

Bastion is Sensereo's portable carbon monoxide detector, designed to hang in a tent, clip to a backpack or sit on a campsite table. It uses a Japanese Figaro TGS-5141 electrochemical sensor with a range of 0 to 1,000ppm, and Sensereo adds temperature and humidity compensation to keep readings steady in cold or damp air. The display brightness adjusts for night or day.

The built-in 1600mAh battery charges over USB-C, and Sensereo says it lasts 500+ hours, or about 21 days of continuous monitoring. It comes in matte black, earth brown, moss grey and sandstone beige, with an early-bird price of $39.99 (normally $49.99).

Netatmo doesn't sell a portable CO detector. FireAngel's FA6813 is suitable for caravans, motor caravans and boats, but it runs on AA batteries and uses an LED alarm memory rather than a live reading.

Where the others have the edge

  • No hub needed: Netatmo's alarms connect straight to your Wi-Fi router. Sensereo's smart features need a Thread border router, such as a HomePod or Apple TV for Apple Home.
  • Easier returns: Netatmo offers free returns within 60 days. Sensereo gives 30 days, but for non-faulty returns you pay the postage plus a USD 10 handling fee per item, and opened items carry a 25% repackaging fee.
  • Lower prices for basic protection: FireAngel's combined smoke and CO alarm is £40, and its CO alarm starts at £20, priced in pounds.
  • A named standard for portable use: FireAngel's FA6813 is EN 50291-2 certified and listed as suitable for caravans and boats. Bastion's page doesn't name a European standard, and as an early-bird product it ships within 14 days.

Which should you choose?

Sensereo suits anyone with an Apple, Google or SmartThings home who wants their alarms in the same app, a combined smoke and CO alarm with a live reading, and a long warranty. Bastion is worth a look if you camp, sleep in a van or stay in cabins.

Netatmo suits people who want a smart alarm without any hub and value a long free returns window.

FireAngel suits anyone who wants dependable, low-cost alarms and doesn't need phone alerts.

FAQs

Do Sensereo alarms work without a smart home hub?

Yes. Sensereo says detection and the local alarm work on their own. A Matter controller with a Thread border router is only needed for app alerts and smart features.

What batteries do Sensereo alarms use?

A sealed battery runs detection, while a replaceable CR123A powers the Matter-over-Thread module. Sensereo says the CR123A typically lasts around two to three years.

Can I return a Sensereo product?

You have 30 days from delivery to request a return, plus a 14-day cooling-off right for UK orders. Faulty items are refunded including original shipping. Read Sensereo's refund policy before buying, as fees apply to non-faulty returns.
