AirHelp is a flight compensation company. If your flight was delayed by three hours or more, cancelled at short notice or overbooked, it checks whether you're owed compensation and then deals with the airline for you, including going to court if it has to. It was founded in 2013 and the service is run by AirHelp Germany GmbH in Berlin. It handles UK261 and EU261 claims as well as passenger rights rules in other countries.
It suits people who don't want to deal with the airline themselves, or whose claim has already been rejected. Before you sign up, it's worth knowing that you can claim directly from the airline for free. Under UK261, the amount depends on how far you flew: up to £220 for flights up to 1,500km, £350 for 1,500 to 3,500km and £520 for longer flights. If the airline says no, you can take the complaint to its dispute resolution scheme or the Civil Aviation Authority. AirHelp charges for doing that work for you.
What it costs
AirHelp works on a no win, no fee basis, and checking your flight is free. Its fees page sets out the charges:
- Standard fee: 35% of the compensation, including VAT, taken only if AirHelp wins.
- Legal Action Fee: if the claim has to go to court (AirHelp says this happens in about 3% of cases), it takes a further 15% of the compensation, including VAT, on top of the 35%.
- Goodwill claims: US$29.99, waived for small amounts.
- AirHelp+ members pay no fee on claims.
So on a £520 award, you'd get £338 after the standard fee, or £260 if legal action was needed. AirHelp usually pays EU and UK claims in euros, so your bank may charge to convert them.

AirHelp+ is an annual membership for regular flyers. As well as no fee on claims, it gives you a €100 payout for long delays, short-notice cancellations and lost or delayed bags, €200 for missed connections, and airport lounge access during disruptions. You must buy it before anything goes wrong and register your flights at least 48 hours before departure. The free AirHelp app tracks your flights and tells you when you might be owed compensation.

How to save more
- Try the airline first. Claiming direct under UK261 costs nothing and you keep the full amount. Use AirHelp if the airline stalls or you'd rather not deal with it.
- Do the sums on AirHelp+. If you fly a few times a year, a membership could cost less than 35% of one claim. Use code PLUS10 at checkout.
- Keep your paperwork. Boarding passes, booking emails and receipts for food or hotels make any claim, DIY or through AirHelp, much stronger. Most claims can be made up to three years after the flight.
