AutoAid Breakdown sells breakdown cover with one big difference from most policies: it covers the driver, not a named car. If you're driving a car, van, motorbike or classic you're legally allowed to drive in the UK, you're covered. It's run by Right Choice Insurance Brokers (RCIB), an FCA-regulated broker in Romford, Essex, which also owns the vehicle-based brand Auto National Rescue and Euro Rescue for trips abroad.
That makes it a good fit for households with more than one vehicle, people who regularly borrow a car or drive a work van, and anyone with a weekend bike or classic alongside an everyday car. One policy covers the lot, rather than paying for each vehicle separately.
At checkout the cover cost £66.14 a year, or £6.99 a month with a first payment of £13.98. It includes roadside help around the clock, home start, unlimited call-outs and recovery to any one UK destination.
If your vehicle can't be fixed at the roadside, AutoAid will take it, you and up to five passengers to one place in the UK of your choice, whether that's home, a garage or where you were heading. If the repair can't be done the same day, it arranges overnight accommodation nearby. Cover also helps if your car is stolen and recovered, or can't be driven after vandalism. When you break down you can call the free 24-hour number or report it through the app, which uses your phone's GPS so the operator can find you even if you're not sure where you are.
A few conditions are worth knowing. Standard cover applies to vehicles up to 15 years old, and older vehicles need an upgrade at checkout. For any vehicle aged 10 or more, you pay the first £25 of the call-out cost to the recovery operator. Cover starts from midnight on the day after AutoAid receives your payment, so don't leave it until the morning of a long drive.

The personal breakdown cover is the core product, and you can add your spouse, civil partner or common-law partner for an extra cost. Bikers should look at the motorbike cover page: the same membership covers your bike or trike, so you don't need a separate bike policy.
