Rixwell Hotels is a small Baltic hotel brand operated by Mogotel, which is based in Riga. Its hotels sit in two of northern Europe's most walkable capitals: Riga in Latvia and Tallinn in Estonia, both with medieval old towns, Christmas markets in winter and plenty of direct flights from the UK. There is also a summer hotel in the Latvian seaside resort of Jurmala, which is closed for the winter, and a hotel in Kyiv.

It suits couples and friends planning a city break, families, and business travellers who need meeting space. Prices are shown in euros, and booking directly on the Rixwell site comes with a best price guarantee, free date changes on non-refundable bookings up to 24 hours before arrival, and free stays for children under four.

What's worth a look

Here are four hotels and two packages from the Rixwell site.

For atmosphere, the Old Riga Palace Hotel is hard to beat: 116 individually designed rooms in a six-storey Art Nouveau building on a quiet Old Town street, including Heritage rooms with low ceilings and wooden beams. In Tallinn, the Savoy Boutique Hotel has Italian-made Art Deco interiors and sits between the old town and the modern centre, while Viru Square is right on the main street into the medieval quarter. The Elefant in Riga is a modern 157-room hotel about 15 minutes from both the airport and the Old Town, handy for early flights.

The Riga hotels have their own restaurants serving Latvian and European food, and Old Riga Palace guests can get a discount at the Wellton spa, a five-minute walk away. Several hotels have conference rooms, and Viru Square has a Turkish bath and Finnish sauna. Gift cards for stays can be bought at the hotels or by emailing the Riga hotels.
