The H Dubai: rooms, suites and direct-booking offers on Sheikh Zayed Road

The H Dubai is a five-star hotel at One Sheikh Zayed Road, right next to Dubai World Trade Centre and a short walk from the Metro. It opened in 2007 as The Monarch, took its current name in 2012, and is now run by the UAE company STORY Hospitality. The hotel is in Dubai and prices on its own site are shown in UAE dirhams (AED), so it suits UK travellers who want a central base for a city break, a business trip or a family holiday, with Dubai Mall, the Museum of the Future and DIFC all close by.

The H Dubai has 236 rooms, suites and serviced apartments and around a dozen places to eat and drink. Many room types have just been renovated, and work is still going on in parts of the hotel, including the pool and spa. The hotel stays open during the work, and while the pool is closed guests get free access to a pool at a neighbouring five-star hotel, with transfers by limousine. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is at 12pm.

What's worth a look

Here are the room types and packages on the hotel's own site that stand out.

The Grand Deluxe Room is a good place to start: at 50 sq m it's a generous standard room for Dubai, with a king or two single beds. Families should look at the Family Connecting Rooms, which come in three combinations and offer up to 130 sq m. If you're after a treat, the Dubai Suite Escape puts you in a Presidential, Sky or Royal Suite from AED 1,700 a night plus service charge and taxes. It includes breakfast, private airport transfers both ways and a full 24-hour stay.

• Stay Long, Save Big: 10% off stays of five nights or more, with monthly serviced apartment rates from AED 11,200.

How to save more

• Compare the package offers before you book. If you'd eat breakfast anyway, Stay & Save can work out better value than a room-only rate.

• Prices are in dirhams, so pay with a card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees and check the pound total before you confirm.
