Electric-fireplace.co.uk is a specialist fireplace dealer that started life in Aalborg, Denmark, in 2010, when brothers Casper W. Lanng and Christoffer L. Mortensen set up a web shop selling fires. It now trades in 14 countries, and its UK business, Bioethanol-Fireplace Limited, has run a showroom in Greenwich, London, since autumn 2022.

It suits anyone who wants the look of a fire without a chimney, gas supply or smoke: flat owners, people planning a media wall, or anyone replacing an old open fire with an insert. The site lists more than 1,000 models from brands including Dimplex, British Fires, Glow Fire, Planika, Faber, Westbo of Sweden and TAGU, alongside its own ScandiFlames range.

You can browse by placement (wall-hanging, freestanding, built-in, corner or three-sided), by size from 40 to 85 inches for media walls, or by flame effect. Water vapour fires are a speciality: they use fine mist and LED light to make a flame you can put your hand through, and don't give out heat.

At the budget end, the TAGU Hagen is a freestanding surround at £439 that needs no tools to put together. If you want a fire that feels like a proper stove, the cast iron Westbo of Sweden Carl has two heat settings and a hot plate hidden under its top. For a large media wall, the Dimplex Ignite Evolve 74 is almost 1.9 metres wide and can be controlled from the Flame Connect app.
