Ethiopian Airlines is Ethiopia's national carrier and Africa's largest airline. From the UK it flies out of London Heathrow Terminal 2 and Manchester, and almost every journey connects through its hub at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. From there the network reaches more than 60 destinations across Africa, which is why it's a regular choice for safaris, beach breaks and visits to family in East and Southern Africa. It has also been voted Best Airline in Africa at the Skytrax World Airline Awards for nine years in a row.

It suits travellers who want one ticket to somewhere that doesn't have a direct flight from the UK, and anyone happy to trade a stop in Addis for a wider choice of destinations. Economy usually includes two 23kg checked bags, which is generous for long-haul. The site doesn't show fixed prices on its route pages, so search your own dates to see current fares.

What's worth a look

Here are six routes, cabins and schemes from Ethiopian's own site that are worth checking.

For a classic Tanzania trip, the London to Kilimanjaro route lands you close to the national parks and the mountain itself, and Manchester has its own route pages to Zanzibar. London to Cape Town takes around 15 to 18 hours including the stop in Addis, and on longer flights Cloud Nine business class has lie-flat seats, lounge access and priority boarding.

If you'd like to see a bit of Ethiopia on the way, the airline's Discover Addis stopover page offers city tours during a layover, covering places such as Holy Trinity Cathedral and the National Museum, with transfers and an English-speaking guide included.

Current offers

We don't have any Ethiopian Airlines codes listed right now, but the airline's own 9 Years 9 Wins sale gives 10% off flights across its network when you book by 24 October 2026. It covers travel from 1 October to 30 November 2026 and from 1 February to 31 March 2027, in both Economy and Cloud Nine. It isn't valid on flights to or from Addis Ababa itself, Somalia or China, and normal fare rules and change fees apply.

How to save more

  • Students aged 16 to 31 in full-time education can join the free Student Club for 10% off international Economy fares, up to two 32kg bags and one free date change.
  • Join ShebaMiles, the free frequent flyer programme, before you travel. Miles count towards award tickets, upgrades and other travel rewards.
  • Be flexible with dates. The 10% sale has two travel windows, so a February or March trip can still qualify even if autumn dates don't suit.
