Field Doctor makes frozen ready meals in its own kitchen in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and delivers them to homes across the UK. Each dish is designed by an in-house dietitian working with a chef team, cooked in small batches using locally sourced, seasonal produce, then flash frozen. It suits busy people, anyone cooking for one, and people who want proper meals in the freezer for evenings when cooking isn't happening.

There are more than 60 meals to choose from, mostly single portions. The menu is split into ranges such as gluten free, high protein, lower carb, Mediterranean and low FODMAP, and there are vegetarian and vegan options. Most meals are gluten free and nut free, and the product pages list full ingredients and allergens, so check those if you have specific dietary needs.

What's worth a look

Comfort food features heavily. The Potato Topped Chicken Pie and the Coq au Vin are both £8.79, while the Chicken Paella is one of the cheaper options at £7.99. How ordering works

You can buy a one-off box or set up a subscription with a delivery every one to eight weeks. Subscribers can swap meals, skip a week or pause at any time, with no lock-in. Meals arrive frozen in insulated packaging with dry ice or ice packs, go straight into the freezer and heat up in minutes. Frozen food can't be returned, but if something arrives damaged or wrong, Field Doctor will replace it if you send photos within 30 days.

Current offers

There are no promotions on the site at the moment beyond free delivery on orders over £67.50 (it's £6.50 otherwise for most of the UK). You can also order a free printed copy of the menu, and Field Doctor sells e-gift cards if you want to send meals to someone else.

How to save more

• Build your box to £67.50 or more. At around £8 a meal that's roughly eight or nine dishes, and it saves the £6.50 delivery charge.
• Mix in the cheaper dishes, such as the £7.99 Chicken Paella or the £7.49 Vegetable Korma, to bring the average price per meal down.
• If you only want to try a few dishes, order a one-off box first rather than setting up a subscription straight away.
• If you work for the NHS, use the NHS discount sign-up page linked at the bottom of the site before you order.
