Gaâla is a womenswear label started in 2020 by Kelly and Alexander, a couple with business rather than fashion backgrounds who sold their flat to fund the first collection. They began with one retired tailor and deadstock fabric bought in Prato, Italy, and have since opened their own workshops. The company behind the brand is based in Vilnius, Lithuania, and it runs a pop-up boutique in Le Marais, Paris. The look is French and gently vintage, so it suits anyone after a wedding-guest dress, a tweed suit for work or one good knit that will last.

For UK shoppers, the site shows prices in pounds with duties and VAT already included, so there's nothing extra to pay on delivery. Many pieces are made to order, which takes three to five weeks, so check the availability note on each product before you buy for an event.

What's worth a look

Here are six pieces from the current range, with UK prices as shown on the site today.

The Hortensia Belted Dress at £420 is typical of the label: a collared dress with a detachable belt in three colours. For something smaller, the Garance Merino Wool Top at £235 comes in five colours, and the Margaux cotton tweed two-piece is £250 for the jacket and skirt. There's also a full wedding section with bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses and veils.

Fabric is a big part of the appeal. The site lets you shop by tweed, wool and cashmere, silk, linen, eco viscose and its rose fabric, and the toile de Jouy prints have their own section. There's also a Mix & Match range of separates designed to be worn together, plus a Sample Edit. Product pages explain the fabric and fit in detail, including notes where a design runs small, which is useful when exchanges aren't offered to UK buyers.

Current offers

  • The Last Chance Archives has older styles at up to 50% off, with sale prices marked on each piece.
  • Standard shipping to the UK and EU is free on orders over €150, and €5 below that.
  • The Gaâla Women Society loyalty scheme gives 10 points per euro spent, which you can swap for discounts.

How to save more

  • Start in the archive section: it had 177 pieces when we looked, many still available to order in a range of sizes.
  • Get the size right first. UK orders can't be exchanged and a return label costs €5, so use the size guide or email the sizing team with questions.
  • Made-to-order items can only be cancelled within 24 hours, so be sure before you check out.
