Irish Ferries is one of the main operators across the Irish Sea and the Channel. It's part of Irish Continental Group and traces its roots back to 1973. From Britain it sails Holyhead to Dublin, Pembroke to Rosslare and Dover to Calais, and it also runs Dublin to Cherbourg for travellers going from Ireland to France. The UK website takes bookings in pounds for foot passengers, cars, vans, motorhomes, motorbikes, bikes and pets.
It suits anyone driving to Ireland who wants to bring the car, the dog and as much luggage as fits, as well as rail travellers who'd rather avoid flying. Holyhead to Dublin has up to four sailings a day, including a fast ferry that crosses in just over two hours, while Pembroke to Rosslare takes just over four hours. Fares and offers below were checked on 16 October 2026. Ferry prices change with date, time and vehicle size, so the 'from' prices are the cheapest the site advertises.

The headline fare is a car and one passenger to Ireland from £148 one way. It's based on off-peak night sailings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so it suits people with flexible dates. Without a car, Rail & Sail combines a mainline train from more than 2,400 British stations with the Holyhead crossing, from £46 each way, and is booked through Trainline. Pet owners can choose between pet dens, pet-friendly cabins and kennels, depending on the ship. Check the pet travel page for what's available on your route.

How to save more
- Pay with Tesco Clubcard points, which are worth up to twice their value as Boost tokens. You can use one token per booking, and on Dover to Calais the limit is £160 return.
- Pick the fare type carefully. Economy is cheapest but can't be refunded, and changes cost £20 per sailing for drivers. Flexi lets you change before departure for free.
- Carry bikes on a rear rack instead of the roof. Vehicle height sets the price, and anything over 1.90m costs more.
