Green Chef is a recipe box subscription: each week it delivers pre-portioned fresh ingredients and step-by-step recipe cards, and you cook the meals at home. It started in the US, is part of the HelloFresh group, and in the UK is run by Grocery Delivery E-Services UK Limited. Green Chef says it was the UK's first keto recipe box and has now delivered more than 15 million meals. It suits people who follow a particular way of eating, or who want help planning midweek dinners without counting everything themselves.

There are eight dietary preferences, developed with Green Chef's nutritionists, and more than 35 recipes on the menu each week. You can mix and match across preferences, swap ingredients, and add extras such as juices. Every recipe card lists nutrition and allergen information, so it's easy to check what's in each meal.

It's a rolling subscription with no contract. You choose a box size based on how many meals you want each week, then pick recipes after checkout, or let Green Chef choose for you based on your preference. Boxes arrive in insulated packaging that keeps ingredients cool if you're not in, and you can manage everything online or in the Green Chef app. Green Chef delivers across Great Britain but not to Northern Ireland or some Scottish Highlands and Islands postcodes, so check the delivery page first if you live somewhere remote. Plan prices depend on box size and only show once you start choosing a plan on the site.

The High Protein recipes list 35g to 70g of protein per recipe, which suits anyone who trains regularly. If you eat meat-free some days but not others, the Pescatarian and Flexitarian menus give you a mix.

• A key worker and over-60s discount, which you claim by verifying through Green Chef's GoCertify page. It covers NHS and healthcare staff, the military, teachers, police and fire, delivery and supermarket workers, care workers and people aged 60 or over.

How to save more

• If you're a key worker or over 60, compare the verified discount with the general new-customer offer before signing up, as you can usually only use one.
• Skip weeks when you're away (up to four weeks at a time) instead of cancelling and signing up again.
• Pick the box size that matches how many meals you'll actually cook, so nothing goes to waste.
