Green Chef is a recipe box subscription that sends pre-portioned fresh ingredients and step-by-step recipe cards to your door. It began in the US and is part of the HelloFresh group; in the UK it is run by Grocery Delivery E-Services UK Limited. Green Chef says it was the UK's first keto recipe box and has delivered more than 15 million meals.
You choose from eight dietary preferences developed with its nutritionists: High Protein (35g to 70g of protein per recipe), Calorie Conscious (under 550kcal), Keto, Lower Carb, Vegan, Vegetarian, Pescatarian and Flexitarian. There are more than 35 recipes on the menu each week, and you can mix and match across preferences, swap ingredients and add extras such as juices and vitamins. Each recipe card lists nutrition and allergen information.
It's a rolling subscription with no contract: you can skip up to four weeks at a time, pause or cancel online or in the app, as long as you make changes by 11.59pm five days before your next delivery. Boxes come in insulated packaging to keep the food cool if you're out. Green Chef delivers across Great Britain but not to Northern Ireland or parts of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, and new customers currently get 40% off their first box.
