Komodo has been making ethical clothing since 1988. Mark Bloom, known as Joe Komodo, started it after a summer in Bali, selling patchwork jackets made from old jeans out of an East End workshop. The business is still based in London and still works with small family-run factories in Bali, Kathmandu and India. Over the years it has raised money to build schools, planted trees and supported orangutan conservation.

It suits anyone who wants grown-up, easy-to-wear clothes made from better materials: organic cotton cord and denim, lambswool and merino knits, modal jersey and recycled fleece. The women's and men's ranges sit alongside organic cotton pyjamas, socks and basics, vegan shoes and sunglasses. Prices are those of a small independent label rather than the high street, which is why the sale section is worth a look.

Each product page lists the fabric and how it's made. The SAHARA dress, for example, is 95% modal with a little spandex and made in a SEDEX-audited factory, while the HARITI dress is 100% organic cotton denim. The ATLANTA Wool Blend Jumper in navy stands out in the clearance at £34, down from £115. From the new season, the JAGO Lambswool Jumper in sand is £100 and made from pure lambswool, while the KARDA overshirt in chestnut organic cotton cord is £90. In the sale, the DREW fleece jacket, made from 100% recycled PET with an organic cotton lining, is £120 instead of £150.
