Flow Kayaks is a paddlesports shop at Holme Pierrepont Country Park in West Bridgford, Nottingham, beside the white water course. It was set up in early 2018 by Jake Boswell, a former white water raft guide who competed internationally in freestyle kayaking, after he struggled to find a good choice of kit in the Midlands. It's still paddler-owned, and you can shop online or visit the showroom.

The range covers whitewater, touring, sea, sit-on-top, freestyle, polo, inflatable and kids' kayaks, plus canoes and stand-up paddleboards. There's a deep stock of kit too: paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets, spraydecks, drysuits, cags, boots, base layers and neoprene from brands such as Pyranha, Palm, Peak PS and NRS. It suits beginners buying a first boat and buoyancy aid as well as experienced river paddlers after a specific creeker or drysuit, and the team gives advice in person, by phone or online.

Delivery is a strong point. Kayaks and canoes are hand-delivered free in England and Wales by the shop's own vans, usually within seven days. Kit ships free with tracking on orders over £50, and you can collect from the Nottingham shop, usually within an hour. If you're not sure what to buy, there's a fleet of demo boats and paddles you can try first.

Unused items can go back within 60 days through an online returns portal, where you choose an exchange, store credit or a refund for each item. Bigger purchases can be spread with Klarna over three months or with PayPal Pay Later.

What's worth a look

All six of these were reduced when we looked.

The headline deal is the Pyranha Firecracker Elite, a playful half-slice whitewater kayak, down from £1,785 to £1,250. If your kit needs an upgrade before winter paddling, the Peak PS Deluxe One Piece Drysuit was £485, down from £699.

• Paddling clubs, outdoor centres and businesses buying in bulk can ask about club and trade discounts.
• Try a demo boat before committing to an expensive kayak, so you don't end up selling one that doesn't fit.
