Mountfield: petrol, cordless and ride-on mowers direct from the brand

Mountfield has been a familiar name on British lawns for decades, and its own online shop sells the full range direct: push and self-propelled petrol mowers, cordless mowers and tools, ride-ons and garden tractors, plus hedge trimmers, strimmers, blowers and spare parts. The brand is part of the STIGA group, and the UK shop is run by STIGA Ltd from Essex.

It suits most gardeners, from someone with a small square of lawn who wants a light cordless mower to a homeowner with an acre or two who needs a sit-on tractor. If you already own a Mountfield, it's also the place for official spares and to find a local authorised dealer for servicing.

What's worth a look

Here are six machines across the range, from a cordless hedge trimmer to a ride-on tractor, with prices as shown on the site today.

For a small lawn, the SP41 at £249 is a compact self-propelled petrol mower with a 39cm cut and a 40-litre grass bag. Step up to the SP185 at £339 for a 46cm steel deck and six cutting heights on a medium lawn. If you'd rather skip petrol altogether, the Princess 34 Li Kit runs on the 48V Freedom 500 battery system and has a rear roller for stripes.

Big gardens are where the 1538M-SD comes in: a side-discharge garden tractor with a 98cm twin-blade deck, which Mountfield rates for lawns of up to about two acres.

Current offers

• We list a Mountfield welcome code for new customers; check the amount and terms in our codes box before you order.
• Standard delivery is free on orders over £90. Below that it's £5.99, or £7.99 for items over 30kg or large batteries.
• Selected larger machines come with free White Glove delivery: a local dealer assembles the machine, inspects it, delivers it and shows you how to use it.
• The Autumn Starts Here page groups the current deals, with petrol mowers from £219 and garden tractors from £1,729 when we checked.
• Klarna is available at checkout if you'd like to spread the cost.

How to save more

• Pick the right size first. Each product page shows a recommended mowing area, and the site has a tool that lets you draw round your lawn on a map. Buying a bigger machine than you need is the easiest way to overspend.
• Decide on a battery platform. Freedom 100 tools run on 20V batteries and Freedom 500 on 48V, so if you already own one battery, a "bare" tool without its own battery and charger can cost less than a full kit.
• Late autumn and winter are a quiet time for mowers. If your old one is on its way out, compare the autumn deals with spring prices before you commit.
