Otticanet is an online eyewear shop from Biella in northern Italy, run by Star S.r.l., the company behind two VisionOttica opticians in the town. It has been selling online since 2003 and ships worldwide, and its UK site shows every price in pounds.

It suits anyone after designer sunglasses or glasses frames from a wide choice of brands: Gucci, Saint Laurent, Celine, Prada, Tom Ford, Miu Miu and Cartier sit alongside everyday names such as Ray-Ban, Oakley, Polaroid and Guess. Otticanet says everything it sells is 100% original, sent in the brand's own case and with a certificate of authenticity where one applies.

The site is easy to browse by brand, frame shape (pilot, cat-eye, round, oversized, squared and more), gender or features such as polarised, mirrored and blue-light filter lenses. There are children's frames, a page of the newest releases and an editorial magazine on the season's eyewear trends. Prices run from under £50 for high-street brands to well over £1,000 for Cartier.

The practical bit for UK buyers: orders ship from Italy, delivery to the UK is free with an estimated two to four days, and Otticanet pays the import duties and taxes, so there's nothing extra to pay when the parcel arrives.
