SEBO is a German family company best known for its upright vacuum cleaners. It built the first modern commercial upright in 1978, and its machines are still found in hotels, offices and schools, but it also makes a domestic range for homes. SEBO (UK) Ltd, based in High Wycombe, has sold the range here since the early 1980s and runs its own online shop at sebo.co.uk.

The appeal is machines built to last and be repaired rather than replaced. Every SEBO is made in Germany, spare parts, bags and filters are sold on the same site, and corded household machines come with a five-year parts and labour guarantee on the UK mainland when you register them within 30 days. That makes SEBO a good fit for anyone tired of replacing a cheap vacuum every couple of years, for allergy-conscious homes, and for pet owners, who get a dedicated Pet collection.

What's worth a look

The AUTOMATIC X7 is the classic SEBO upright, adjusting its brush height to the floor automatically, and the Pastel Pink version is currently £405.52 instead of £506.90. If you prefer a cylinder, the AIRBELT K1 PET pairs an 890W motor with SEBO's KOMBI cleaning head. The BALANCE A1 PRO is the cordless option, though note its guarantee is two years rather than five. Beyond the machines, the site sells genuine SEBO bags, filters, brush rollers and tools for each model, which is useful if you already own an older SEBO and want to keep it going.

How to save more

• Register your new machine on the SEBO site within 30 days. The extended guarantee only starts once it's registered, and repairs outside it can cost more than you'd expect.

• If the colour doesn't matter, compare the pink sale price with the standard model: the pink X7 is currently cheaper than the white one.
