Pong Cheese is an online cheese shop from Bath, started by two friends who thought cheese deserved better than a quick plate at the end of dinner. It stocks cheeses from independent British makers, alongside European favourites, and sends them out chilled on an overnight courier. It suits anyone sorting out a Christmas cheeseboard, buying a food gift for someone who has everything, or wanting a regular box of cheeses they wouldn't find in the supermarket.

You can browse by country, by type (hard, soft, blue, washed or smoked) and by milk, and every listing says whether the cheese is pasteurised or made with raw milk. That's handy if you're buying for someone who needs to avoid unpasteurised cheese. Alongside single cheeses there are ready-made gift boxes, a Christmas range, baked cheeses and gift vouchers.

What's worth a look

Here are six picks from Pong's current range, with the prices shown on the site today.

The Vacherin Mont d'Or is a seasonal Alpine cheese that comes in a spruce box. You bake it in the oven until it's runny and dip into it, and it's £21.95 for about 400g. If you're new to artisan cheese, The Pong Cheese Explorer Box is a smaller starter box at £24.95. It includes Westcombe Cheddar from Somerset, Perail from France and Blue Monday from Alex James.

For the big day, The 'Gourmet' Christmas Cheese Box costs £36.00 for about 790g. It includes Perail, Maroilles, a Loire goat's cheese, Harrogate Blue and Pong's own Extraordinary Cheddar. If French cheese is your thing, The French Superieur Selection Box is £49.95 for about 1150g, which is enough for a big gathering. Or you can buy Pong's Extraordinary Cheddar on its own for £6.95.

Current offers

• Choose 3, get a 4th free: pick any three individual cheeses and Pong adds a fourth, chosen to go with the others. It doesn't apply to gift boxes or with other offers.
• Cheese Club for half price: new members can use code CLUB50 for 50% off the first box, which brings a Speciality box down from £24 to £12, or a Premium box from £32 to £16.

How to save more

• Build your own board from single cheeses to get the free fourth cheese, rather than buying a gift box, where the offer doesn't apply.
• Add a small cheese or a gift voucher to push your basket over £50 and save the £5.95 delivery charge.
• The Cheese Club delivery is always free and there's no contract, so you can try the half-price first box and skip, pause or cancel afterwards.
