Swoon London is a small British handbag brand run by Anna and Jules, now based in Christchurch, Dorset. Anna spent more than 20 years in luxury fashion and wanted a good-looking everyday bag that could cope with life on and off boats on the River Dart, without designer prices. The result is a short range of leather crossbody bags built around one idea: straps you can swap to suit your outfit or mood.

It suits anyone after one practical everyday bag rather than a wardrobe of them, and it's an easy gift because every bag can be monogrammed for free. Being a small business, it keeps the choice tight: a handful of shapes in a handful of colours, with the straps doing the work of making each bag look different.

The Downton Crossbody Bag at £89 is the compact option, sized for a phone, purse, make-up and keys. The Downton XL at £119 gives you more room, and the Stratford and Harlan, both £89, offer a different shape. Each bag comes with a matching strap and tassel, and you choose two more straps free from the range, such as the gold cable chain or woven Aztec.

Colours are kept to a small set that changes over time, with Sunset Orange, West Coast Blue, Denim, Dark Navy, Confetti Pink and Tuscan Tan in stock when we looked. Because the straps are interchangeable, one bag can look quite different from day to day, which is the point of the brand. Bags come with a one-year warranty, and Swoon also ships to the US, Australia, the EU and further afield by Royal Mail, with free delivery over £75 (or $90 to the US).
