Rembrandt Hotels: a renovated Sukhumvit base in Bangkok with free perks

Rembrandt Hotels runs two places to stay on Sukhumvit Soi 18 in central Bangkok: the Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok, which has just come out of an extensive renovation and now presents itself as a five-star hotel, and Rembrandt Residences Bangkok, a serviced residence next door with bigger suites and kitchenettes. Residence guests can use all the hotel's facilities, so you get the same pools, restaurants and shuttle either way.

It suits couples and business travellers who want to be close to BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit, and families who need connecting rooms or a suite with space to spread out. Prices on the website are in Thai baht, and the standard booking terms let you pay when you arrive.

What's worth a look

Here are six things from the hotel's own site that are worth knowing about before you book.

On the rooms page, hotel rooms currently start at THB 2,299 a night for a 30 sq m Superior Room, with Deluxe rooms on higher floors at THB 2,399 and the renovated 36 sq m Classic Room at THB 3,600. Families can look at the Classic Connecting Rooms (70 sq m, sleeping four adults and a child) at THB 7,100, or cross over to the residences, where a 75 sq m Grand Suite with a kitchenette is listed at THB 2,199 and the Grand Suite Connected sleeps four adults and two children for THB 3,699. The 135 sq m Executive Suite on the 34th floor, with a full kitchen, washing machine and terrace, is THB 3,499. Rates change with dates, so treat these as a guide.

The facilities include two swimming pools on the fourth floor, open 6am to 8pm, a fitness centre on the 24th floor with city views, and 24-hour in-room dining. For a lazy afternoon, the Free Flow Fiesta at the pool bar runs daily from noon to 3pm, starting at THB 777++ per person.

How to save more

• Book on the hotel's own site rather than a travel agent's to get the free laundry and mall vouchers, which can add up over a longer stay.
• Take your passport when you go shopping: the Terminal 21 and tourist card coupons need a non-Thai passport.
• Use the free shuttle to get to the BTS and MRT instead of taking taxis. If you're arriving late, the private airport transfer costs a fixed THB 1,600 by car, so you know the price before you land.
