Ties Planet was started in 2006 by brothers Andrew and Chris Bragg and works out of a converted mill in Morley, near Leeds. As the name suggests, ties are the main event: silk, wool, knitted, skinny, clip-on, tartan, novelty, bow ties and boys' ties, plus cravats and matching pocket squares. There's also a long list of accessories, from cufflinks and tie clips to socks, braces, belts and hats.

It suits anyone who wears a tie to work, wedding parties who need to match colours, and people looking for an easy present. Most designs carry the shop's own Tresanti and Michaelis labels, and prices are in pounds.

What's worth a look

Here are six picks from across the shop, from silk ties to winter hats.

The Tresanti Celeste navy tie with pink fish is woven silk and costs £19.95, a fun one for an angler. For cold mornings, the Tresanti checked flat cap is £29.95 and is quilted inside, while the navy cable knit beanie is fleece-lined and costs £19.95.

Stocking fillers are easy too. Tresanti polka dot socks are £6.95 a pair, and the Christmas Mix & Match range includes socks and accessories on a buy two, get a third for a penny deal.

Weddings are a big part of the business. There are men's and boys' wedding ties and cravats, cummerbunds, pocket squares and cufflinks, and you can ask for free colour swatches to match the bridesmaids' dresses before you order. Ties Planet also makes custom ties for clubs and companies. Orders placed by 2.30pm on a weekday are sent the same day by Royal Mail 24, and there are paid next-day options with DPD (£5.99) or Royal Mail Special Delivery (£8.99) if you're short of time.
