Tushbaby is an American baby gear brand started by two mothers, Tammy and Sara, and it's best known for one clever idea: a hip-seat carrier. A padded seat on a waistband takes your child's weight on your hip instead of your arm, and pockets around it hold your phone, keys and a nappy or two. The brand appeared on the US version of Shark Tank in January 2019 and has since added slings, wrap carriers, bags, toys and even carriers for small dogs.

It suits parents of babies and toddlers who are always picking their child up and putting them down again, such as on the school run, at the shops or at a theme park, and who find a full carrier too much hassle. Tushbaby ships from the US, but UK visitors see prices in pounds. Carriers come with a 60-day risk-free trial and a 12-month warranty.

For older toddlers, the Liftoff Toddler Sling (from £56) is a light sling with an expandable seat for children of 25 to 55lb, and it rolls up small enough to go in a bag when they want to walk. Dog owners get the same idea with the Tushpuppy Hip Seat Pet Carrier, from £76, designed for very small dogs.
