Rakuten Kobo, usually just called Kobo, is a Canadian company that sells eBooks, audiobooks and its own range of eReaders. It was set up in Toronto in December 2009 and is now part of Japan's Rakuten Group. Through its UK store at kobo.com you can buy digital books and read them on a Kobo eReader or in the free Kobo Books app.
Recent eReaders include the Kobo Clara BW, the colour-screen Kobo Clara Colour, the Kobo Libra Colour, which has page-turn buttons and works with the Kobo Stylus 2, and the larger Kobo Elipsa 2E. eReaders and accessories bought from kobo.com can be returned within 45 days if you're not happy with them. Kobo has also teamed up with iFixit, so owners of some out-of-warranty models can order parts and repair their own device.
For regular readers, Kobo Plus is a monthly subscription that lets you read or listen to as many eBooks and audiobooks from its catalogue as you like, with a free trial for eligible new subscribers. A paid VIP Membership gives 10% off millions of selected titles and earns Kobo Super Points on eBook and audiobook purchases, which can be swapped for more books. UK customers are also covered by Kobo's Price Match Guarantee and Pre-order Price Guarantee. Kobo eReaders don't earn points, and Kobo gift cards can't be used to buy eReaders.
| Delivery | eBooks and audiobooks are delivered digitally to your Kobo account, eReader and the Kobo Books app. Kobo eReaders and accessories can be ordered from kobo.com in the UK, with delivery options and costs shown at checkout, and orders can be tracked on Kobo's Order Status page. |
|---|---|
| Returns | eReaders and Kobo accessories bought from kobo.com can be returned within 45 days of purchase for any reason by contacting Kobo Customer Care. You pay the return postage, and the refund excludes the original delivery charge. Orders can be cancelled online within 8 hours (not express orders). Kobo Customer Care decides whether an eBook or audiobook can be refunded. |
| Price match | Kobo's Price Match Guarantee covers UK customers. If an authorised UK retailer sells the identical eBook or audiobook (same ISBN) for less in pounds within 7 days of your Kobo purchase, Kobo credits the difference to your account. Pre-orders are also covered by the Pre-order Price Guarantee, so you pay the lowest price before release. |

| Ways to pay | Accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Visa debit, PayPal, Kobo Store Credit and Kobo gift cards and eGift cards (gift cards can't be used for eReaders). Kobo Plus subscriptions accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal. |

Usually not: most stores, including Rakuten Kobo, accept one discount code per order. Automatic deals and sale prices can often be combined with a code, so check the terms on each offer.
Yes. Look for the New customers badge on the offers above.
It depends on the code. Many discount codes exclude items that are already reduced, so open Terms on the code before you use it.
We don't have an app-only Rakuten Kobo code right now. When one appears it shows here with an App only badge. The free Kobo Books app lets you read and listen to your Kobo library on phones and tablets, alongside Kobo eReaders.
Most codes exclude gift cards and items already reduced, and some need a minimum spend or are for new customers only. Open Terms on the code, or tap "Didn't work?" and we'll recheck it.
Codes marked Verified have passed our check, with the date and time shown on the code. We use AI to validate that codes actually work. Codes without the badge come from Rakuten Kobo itself or its affiliate programme but haven't been verified yet.
Yes. When you buy from Rakuten Kobo through our links, Rakuten Kobo pays us a commission, and we give 50% of it to the charity you choose. We donate once Rakuten Kobo confirms the sale, usually 30 to 90 days later, and pay charities once a year.
No. You pay Rakuten Kobo's normal price, less any discount. Our commission is paid by Rakuten Kobo or its affiliate network, not by you.
Tap Get code and we copy it for you. Add your items to the basket on the Rakuten Kobo website, then paste the code into the discount or promo code box at checkout.
