LivTours is a tour operator that started out in Rome. Its founder began guiding visitors around the city in 2004 and set up the company, then called LivItaly Tours, in 2009. It began with tours of Rome, Florence and Pompeii and has since added Spain, France, England, Austria and Germany. It now lists more than 350 tours and experiences, from museum visits and walking tours to food tours, cooking classes, shore excursions and day trips.
What sets it apart is group size. Its semi-private tours take no more than six people, so you can actually hear the guide and ask questions. Every semi-private tour also comes in a private version for groups of up to 15, and you can change the start time and add extras. Prices include entry tickets and any transport or tastings the tour description mentions.
UK travellers can switch the site to pounds, and the London range covers Westminster and the Changing of the Guard, the British Museum, Tate Modern and day trips to Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge. The company is a member of GreenStep Sustainable Tourism and says it hires locally and supports small businesses where its tours run.
