About ReduceMyExcess
ReduceMyExcess sells car hire excess insurance, also called excess reimbursement insurance. When you hire a car, the rental agreement usually leaves you liable for an excess if the car is damaged or stolen, and the hire desk will often offer its own waiver to reduce that to zero. A ReduceMyExcess policy is bought separately before you travel. If you are charged the excess, you pay the hire company and then claim the money back.
Brothers Jon and Mark Rebuck started the business in 2011 after running into confusing excess charges while renting cars abroad. It trades under Eversure Limited in Guildford, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and its policies are underwritten by AIG. The site says it has been named a Which? Best Buy for three years running.
Policies come as Single Trip or Annual, with UK and Europe or Worldwide cover. Worldwide policies can add collision damage waiver cover for countries such as the USA and Canada, where it is often not included in the rental price. There is separate single-trip van hire cover too. Standard cover includes up to 8 additional named drivers, plus tyres, windscreen and undercarriage, misfuelling, towing and lost keys, up to £10,000 in total. Policies are for UK residents only; its sister brand Cover4Rentals serves EU residents.
