About The TEFL Institute of Ireland
The TEFL Institute of Ireland, trading as TEFL.ie, is an online course provider that trains people to teach English as a foreign language. It is run by The TEFL Institute Limited, registered in Ireland (no. 613324), and is part of the TEFL Institute Group alongside The TEFL Institute and TEFL.ai. Founder Ian O'Sullivan began teaching English more than 30 years ago and created one of the earliest online TEFL courses in 2000.
The main courses are a 120-hour international certificate for beginners, a 180-hour Level 5 TEFL Diploma and a 300-hour Advanced Level 5 Diploma. The Level 5 qualification is regulated by Ofqual, the UK's qualifications regulator, and the institute is a Highfield Qualifications approved centre. There are also hybrid diplomas with teaching practice, specialist awards in Business English, online and one-to-one teaching and exam classes, and short courses.
Everything is studied online with six months' access, mentoring sessions, job coaching and a mobile learning app. The UK site shows prices in pounds and courses are almost always shown with a large discount against a higher list price. Beyond courses, the company offers internships and supported job placements abroad, a jobs board, and Transition Year programmes for Irish schools.

Ways to save at The TEFL Institute of Ireland
- Use the UK site (tefl.ie/gb) to see prices in pounds; other versions show euros or dollars.
- Check how far a course will take you: the 120-hour certificate is the entry level, while the 180-hour Level 5 Diploma is the Ofqual-regulated option.
- You only get six months to finish, counted from purchase rather than first log-in, so buy when you are ready to start.
- Try a course first with the free 3-day trial before paying.
