About Animals In Distress

Animals In Distress is a Greater Manchester charity that rescues and cares for sick, injured and abandoned animals. Many of its cases are animals hurt in road accidents, dumped, neglected or given up by owners who can no longer look after them. It is funded by donations, legacies and its charity shop.

It was founded in 1967 to ease the suffering of sick and injured animals, and was entered on the Charity Commission register in 1984. Its Irlam sanctuary runs a 24-hour emergency service every day of the year, taking calls from the police, dog wardens, other animal charities and the public. Animals are treated and nursed, then neutered, microchipped and rehomed, or released if they are wild.

Its second sanctuary, the Field of Dreams near Littleborough, takes overflow cats and dogs as well as older and injured horses, farm animals, birds, reptiles and wildlife that are hard to place elsewhere. Some stay for life. The Charity Commission register lists 18 employees, 5 trustees and 33 volunteers.

Every time a supporter shops online through Voucher Magpie with Animals In Distress chosen, we donate 50% of the commission the shop pays us to Animals In Distress, at no extra cost to the shopper.
