TEKshop: new, open-box and refurbished laptops from a Nottingham family firm

TEKshop is the online shop of Save on Electronics Ltd, a family-owned business in Nottingham. It sells laptops, desktops, monitors, projectors, graphics cards, consoles and handheld gaming PCs from brands including Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, ASUS, MSI and Razer, to both home and business buyers. There's no shop to walk into. Everything is sold online, with phone support on weekdays.

What makes it different from the big chains is the mix of conditions. The same model can be listed brand new, open box (cancelled or undelivered orders and warranty replacements) or Grade A or Grade B refurbished, with an in-house team testing and cleaning the refurbished stock. Many listings also let you add a storage or memory upgrade before you buy. It suits anyone hunting for a cheaper laptop for school or work, small offices kitting out several desks, and gamers after a discounted handheld or monitor.

What's worth a look

These were on the site when we checked, with the prices shown on each product page.

For students or a spare family laptop, the Acer Chromebook 314 was £209, down from £249. At the gaming end, the MSI MAG 321UP, a 31.5-inch 4K QD-OLED monitor running at 165Hz, was £899 instead of £1,099. Office buyers might look at the Lenovo ThinkCentre neo 50q Gen 4, a tiny Core i5 desktop that was £599 instead of £799 and tucks behind a monitor. For handheld gaming, the Lenovo Legion Go S with 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD was £929, down from £1,099. Prices and stock move quickly on a shop like this, so treat these as a snapshot, and check the condition shown on each listing before you add it to your basket.

Current offers

We don't have any TEKshop discount codes yet, and its FAQ says listed prices are already its best. When we looked, the site was showing:

• Up to 40% off home laptops and up to 40% off gaming desktops.
• Up to £210 off Chromebook laptops.
• Free next-working-day delivery to England, Wales and parts of Scotland when you order and pay by 2pm on a weekday.

How to save more

• Compare conditions on the same model. Open-box and refurbished grades can cost much less than new, but read the condition and warranty tabs, as cover ranges from the full manufacturer warranty to one year return-to-base.
• Buying several machines for an office? The FAQ says it can quote for bulk orders.
• Order before 2pm on a weekday. That gets same-day dispatch and, in Zone A, free next-day delivery by DPD with a one-hour slot.
