About giffgaff
giffgaff is a UK mobile network that runs on O2's 4G and 5G network. It sells SIM only plans in three forms: pay as you go, monthly rolling plans with no contract, and 18-month contracts with no credit check and, for contracts bought before the end of 2026, no mid-contract price rises. Every plan includes unlimited UK calls and texts, 5G at no extra cost and tethering, and members can change plan up or down each month. Monthly rolling plans start at £6 for 2GB, and an unlimited data contract is £25 a month.
The idea came from Gav Thompson in 2008 and giffgaff launched online in November 2009. The name is Scots for "mutual giving". It is owned by Virgin Media O2, is based in Reading and is a certified B Corp. Members can earn Payback by referring friends and by helping others in the giffgaff Community, which is a big part of how support works alongside the Help hub and chat with agents.
The SIM is free and usually arrives in 1-2 business days, and you don't need to return it if you change your mind. giffgaff also sells new and refurbished phones, all unlocked, with free next working day delivery to most of mainland UK and 21 days to return them. Refurbished phones have at least 80% battery health and a minimum 12-month warranty. It also offers full fibre broadband on the Virgin Media network, on monthly rolling or 24-month plans.
