About Next
Next opened its first womenswear store on 12 February 1982. It grew out of J Hepworth & Son, a Leeds tailoring business dating back to 1864, which renamed itself Next plc in 1986. The Next Directory catalogue followed in 1988, and next.co.uk began selling online in 1999. Next plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is based near Leicester.
Next sells clothing, shoes and accessories for women, men and children, as well as homeware, furniture, beauty products, gifts, flowers and wine. Its website also sells hundreds of other brands, and the group owns or holds stakes in labels such as Lipsy, FatFace, Joules and Reiss.
Next has hundreds of shops in the UK, and these are central to how it delivers. Orders placed by 11pm can be collected free from a store the next day, and items in stock locally can be reserved online and collected the same day. Home delivery costs £4.95. The nextunlimited subscription costs £24.50 a year and covers next-day delivery with no minimum spend. Returns to a Next shop are free.
