Bluvesa is the online flower delivery service of Blumenhaus Ehrend, a florist in Wolfen, Saxony-Anhalt, that has been trading for more than 60 years and is now run by the third generation of the family. It started sending flowers nationwide through eBay in 2004 and opened bluvesa.de in 2011.

The important thing for UK readers is that Bluvesa only delivers within Germany. That makes it useful if you have family, friends or colleagues there and want to send a birthday bouquet, a thank-you or Christmas flowers without relying on a UK relay service. The site is in German and prices are in euros.

The range includes hand-tied bouquets, rose bouquets, single roses, cut flowers by the bunch, orchids and planted arrangements. You can browse by occasion, colour or price, and much of it costs between €20 and €40. Every bouquet comes with two free extras: a 0.2 litre bottle of sparkling wine and a small bar of Lindt milk chocolate. You can add a greetings card with your own message for €1.99.

Delivery is by DHL, Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm. You can't choose a time slot, and if nobody is in, DHL usually leaves the parcel with a neighbour and puts a card through the door, so it's worth checking the recipient will be around. Payment is by PayPal, direct debit, Sofort or giropay; paying by invoice is only for returning customers. If something isn't right with a delivery, the shop asks you to get in touch straight away by email or phone, and its customer service line is open on weekdays and Saturday mornings.

What's worth a look

Six popular choices, with prices as shown on the site.

For a birthday, the Happy Birthday bouquet is €29.99, and the smaller Mein Schatz rose bouquet is €19.99. If you'd prefer something that lasts longer than cut flowers, the pink marbled orchid in a woven basket is €38.99.
