BoomerangTag: QR name tags that help lost things find their way home

BoomerangTag is a small UK brand that makes QR-code name tags for everyday belongings. You stick, iron or clip a tag on an item, then scan it once to register it. If someone finds it, they scan the code with their phone camera and message you through Boomerang, and neither of you has to share a phone number or address. There are no batteries, no Bluetooth and no app to install.

It's a good fit for parents labelling school uniform and water bottles, frequent travellers, and anyone who's forever leaving headphones or keys behind. Every pack includes a free lifetime plan with messaging, email alerts and a lost mode.

What's worth a look

Here's the core range. Each pack was £19.99 when we looked.

The Stick On pack is the most flexible. You get 24 laminated vinyl tags in a choice of shapes for phones, laptops, bottles and cases, and Boomerang says the adhesive lasts five years outdoors. For clothes, the Iron On pack also has 24 tags and is washer and dryer safe, which makes it handy for school jumpers that get handed down.

The newer Glasses Tag is a slim strip for frames too small for a QR code. Finders type in a short link or code instead. The Wallet Card is credit-card sized and fits in a card slot.

For travel, the Luggage Tag pack has two leather-look vegan tags, each with a card inside. The Keyring pack has three coin-sized tags on stainless steel rings for keys and bag zips. Tags come in five colours, Lavender, Charcoal, Glacier, Sage and Amber, and you can change what a finder sees at any time from your account.

The free plan already covers messages, custom information and email alerts, plus SMS to finders anywhere in the world. PLUS and FAMILY PLUS start from £1.59 a month. They add WhatsApp alerts, an option for finders to share the item's GPS location or call you through Boomerang, and on FAMILY PLUS, alerts for up to three people and free replacement tags. Every new account gets 30 days of the family plan free, so you can try it before deciding.
