Career Smarter is an online training provider based in London, set up in 2022. It sells self-paced courses that lead to recognised professional qualifications, aimed at people who want to change career or move up without giving up their job. There are no classes to attend: you study online when it suits you, usually with 12 months' access to the course.

The catalogue lists around 100 courses. The biggest areas are project management (PRINCE2, PRINCE2 Agile, AgilePM, APM and MSP), IT service management (ITIL), business analysis (BCS and IIBA), and cyber security and networking (CompTIA and Cisco), plus Microsoft and AWS cloud. Career Smarter is a PeopleCert Accredited Training Organisation for PRINCE2, and many of its project management courses include the official exam in the price. It also offers an interactive GCSE Maths course for students and adults retaking the exam.

What's worth a look

Six popular starting points, from first-step certificates to full bundles. Prices change with Career Smarter's sales, so check each course page for the current figure.

If you're new to project management, PRINCE2 Foundation is the usual first step and includes the official exam. If you know you'll want both levels, the Foundation & Practitioner bundle includes both exams and a simulated project, and costs less than buying the two separately. For a move into IT, the Cybersecurity Courses for Beginners pathway bundles five CompTIA courses in order.

Each course page sets out the level, typical study hours, exam format and any prerequisites, so you can see what you're signing up for. PRINCE2 Foundation, for example, has no prerequisites, while Practitioner expects you to hold Foundation or an equivalent first. Courses run through an online learning platform with mock exams and tutor support. If you're unsure which route fits, Career Smarter's advisers will talk it through by phone on weekdays.

Current offers

• Bundles across project management, change management, cyber security and IT cost less than buying each course on its own. See the course bundles page.
• Organisations training three or more people can ask for volume pricing and a dedicated account manager.
• You can spread the cost through Payl8r finance (subject to status). The interest-free option only applies if you repay in full within three months.
• Career Smarter runs sales from time to time, so check the banner at the top of the site before you enrol.

How to save more

• If you're likely to take the next level, buy the bundle up front rather than each level separately.
• Check whether the official exam is included before comparing prices. It is on PRINCE2, ITIL Foundation and AgilePM, which can be a big part of the cost elsewhere.
• Ask your employer about the team rate if colleagues are training too.
