Discovery Hospitality is a home-grown Filipino hotel group that started in 2011. It runs a small set of beach and island resorts and two business hotels in Metro Manila. If you're planning a trip to the Philippines from the UK, it's useful because one site covers a classic island stay and a city stopover at either end. Rates are shown in Philippine pesos, and you book on each hotel's own website.

The resorts are Discovery Boracay on White Beach at Station 1, Discovery Coron on Dimakya Island in northern Palawan, Discovery Samal on the Davao Gulf in Mindanao, and Manami Resort, a nature resort in Sipalay on Negros. In Manila there's Discovery Primea on Ayala Avenue in Makati and the all-suite Discovery Suites in Ortigas, across from Podium Mall.

What's worth a look

Here are the offers and destination guides on the group's site that are most useful for planning.

The Book Direct page is the one to read first. It lists each hotel's direct-booking perks and promo codes, from breakfast and airport transfers at the island resorts to dining credits and late check-out in Manila. The Coron guide covers Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake, the Second World War Japanese wrecks that divers come for, and the Twin Lagoons. Discovery Coron itself sits on Dimakya Island, inside a UNESCO biosphere reserve.

For longer trips, Stay Longer, Discover More gathers the long-stay packages, such as a five-night minimum at Coron and a seven-night Extended Elegance package at Primea. These are usually prepaid and can't be cancelled or changed, so be sure of your dates first.

How to save more

• Compare the book-direct code with any airline-member rate. They can't be combined, so pick whichever works out cheaper for your dates.
• At Boracay and Coron, children aged 7 and under stay free when sharing with adults and no extra bed is needed. Older children pay an extra-person charge, which includes breakfast and transfers.
• Rates are in pesos and many have tax and service charge added on top, so check the final total. Pay by a card with no foreign transaction fee.
