Il Duomo is a multi-brand designer boutique in Novara, a city in Piedmont between Milan and Turin. It opened in 1985 in a neoclassical building on Piazza della Repubblica, the square in front of the cathedral, which explains the name. Ercole Cellino took it over from the Greppi family in 2017. He has since relaunched the womenswear floor, added a menswear space and opened the online shop.

The edit is high-end. Its own about page names Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Prada, Valentino and Loewe, plus newer labels such as Acne Studios, Fear of God and AMI. It suits shoppers who already know which designer pieces they want and are happy to buy from a European boutique rather than a UK department store.

The practical details matter for UK buyers. Prices are shown in euros, including when you browse from the UK. Delivery is by DHL for a flat €50, taking three to five business days. Orders are sent duties unpaid, so the courier will collect UK import VAT and any duty before it hands the parcel over.

What's worth a look

The Loewe Origami Flap Back Pumps are made from soft lambskin folded into an open-back shape on a 70mm leather-wrapped heel, at €1,300. At the other end of the range, the Jacquemus Salon Belt is €220, in black leather with a two-tone gold and silver buckle. For winter, the menswear section has the Moncler Immersif Jacket at €1,790. It's a deep brown down jacket with glossy quilted sleeves, a textured front and an oversized hood. Sizes are limited on many pieces, so check what's still available before getting attached to anything.

• Be sure before you buy. Returns must be requested within 14 days of delivery, items must be unused with tags on, exchanges aren't offered and the original shipping cost isn't refunded.
