HYPE. began as a streetwear label in a small Leicester office, making printed tees that picked up a following on social media. Today its UK website is mostly about kids, and in particular the school run: backpacks, lunch bags, thermal bottles and pencil cases in loud prints with names like scribble hearts, pastel pool, lightning storm and chalk dust. It suits parents shopping for a child who wants something more eye-catching than a plain supermarket bag, and older kids buying their own.
The shop also sells kids' clothing for boys and girls, including hoodies, tracksuits, joggers and jackets, a smaller men's range, footwear and a licensed Hype x Sonic the Hedgehog collection. The site's terms name the seller as Apparel Brands Limited, a company registered in Manchester.
Most of the brand's Iconic backpacks cost £30 to £32, and lunch bags and bottles £18. If you're buying a full set, the bundles are worth a look before you add pieces one at a time.

The Black Scribble Hearts four-piece bundle puts a backpack, lunch bag, pencil case and bottle together for £68.50, against £76 for the pieces separately. For Sonic fans, the Hype x Sonic Orange Shadow backpack is £35, and there are matching Sonic bottles and lunch bags in the same collection. If you want something that will go with any uniform, the plain black Iconic Core backpack is £25.
With Christmas coming up, the bags and bottles make easy presents for school-age children. The bundles in particular work as a ready-made gift without much wrapping effort. Lunch bags like the Rainbow Heart Tie Dye design have a thermal lining and a 4.5 litre capacity, which is plenty for a packed lunch and a drink.
