Kate Backdrop makes photography backdrops, and it makes a lot of them. Founded in 2013 by a photographer called David, it now sells thousands of designs through regional websites, including this UK shop with prices in pounds. The company behind it is based in Suzhou, China, and orders are made and shipped from overseas, so allow a few weeks: production takes from two to twelve business days depending on the product, then UK delivery takes around seven to twelve business days more.

It suits portrait and family photographers running themed mini sessions, newborn and cake-smash specialists, small product studios, and anyone who wants a tidy background for headshots or video calls. Many printed designs are created with working photographers, and there are seasonal ranges for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and Valentine's Day as well as plain colours, textures and wood-effect floors.

Beyond printed fabric, there are seamless paper rolls, fleece and vinyl backdrops, rubber floor mats, hand-painted canvases and complete room sets that combine a wall with a matching floor. The site also has a 3D Combo Preview section for browsing wall and floor pairings. Kate can also print custom backdrops, floors and pop-ups from your own artwork, and its rewards programme gives points on orders, with double points during its Kate Day promotions.

What's worth a look

Here's a spread of the range, from printed Christmas scenes to plain paper and the kit to hang it on.

With Christmas minis coming up, the printed microfibre scenes are the obvious draw. The Santa's Post Office backdrop by Megan Leigh Photography starts at £54.90 and comes in sizes from 7x5ft up to 12x8ft, with a 10cm pole pocket along the top. For headshots, the collapsible audition backdrop is double-sided (white and blue), folds down, and pops up on its own frame. If you're building a studio from scratch, the pop-up clip stand at £49.90 is designed for collapsible backdrops.
