Spine Book Printing is a print service in Maidstone, Kent, for people who want a box of real books rather than a publishing deal. It's run by Absolute Creative Print Ltd, a local printer registered in 2010, and it prints everything in the UK. Self-published novelists, poets, family historians, schools, clubs and small businesses printing a guide or a yearbook are the people it's built for.

The appeal is that it's simple. You choose a format, pay online, then upload a print-ready PDF. The design team checks your file against the order, flags low-resolution images or text too close to the edge, works out your spine width and emails a digital proof. They then post you a free wire-bound hard-copy sample within three working days, and nothing goes to print until you give the go-ahead in writing. One thing to know: they don't check spelling or design, so proofread properly before you upload.

Every book is built from the same set of options. You pick paperback or hardback, then A4, A5 or a novel size of 198mm x 129mm, 100gsm uncoated or 130gsm gloss paper, matt or gloss lamination on the cover, black and white or full colour printing, and a page count band up to 500 pages. Quantities come in runs of 10, 25, 50 or 100 copies.

What's worth a look

Here are the main formats with their starting prices as shown on the shop, plus the sample option for anyone still deciding.

For a first novel, The Paperback | Novel is the cheapest way in, from £72.94, and the novel size looks like the paperbacks on a bookshop shelf. If you're printing a photo book or a coffee-table project, the A4 hardback is the more natural fit, especially on 130gsm gloss paper. Bigger page counts, colour printing and larger runs all push the price up from the starting figure, so build your exact spec on the product page to see the real total.

Current offers

We don't have any discount codes for Spine Book Printing at the moment. These are included with every order:

  • Free delivery to UK addresses by APC courier, usually 5 to 7 working days after you approve your proofs. Within 20 miles of Maidstone it can come in the company van.
  • A free file check and digital proof, plus one free hard-copy sample per order.

How to save more

  • Get your file right first time. The terms say changes on a second and third proof are free, but any proofs after that cost £15 plus VAT each.
  • Choose black and white printing for text-only books. Full colour is there when you need it, but plain prose rarely does.
  • Order everything from one account. If you place two orders, the team can combine them into a single delivery.
