VY Jewelry is a small family business run by Victor and Yulana, who say they started with a jewellery boutique in 2005 before moving online. It trades as VY Jewelry Inc from New York, and its pieces are made in Thailand and Italy. Most of the range is solid 925 sterling silver: chunky men's bracelets and cuffs, rings with onyx, opal or turquoise, fine Italian chains and pendants.

UK visitors see prices in pounds, but this is a US shop. International express delivery by DHL or UPS is listed at $65 USD, and you pay any import duties and taxes when the parcel arrives. That makes VY better suited to a considered gift or a statement piece than to a quick impulse buy. Every order comes in a VY pouch with a polishing cloth.

What's worth a look

Prices below are the "from" prices shown in pounds for UK visitors. Larger sizes cost more.

The Classic Bangle is one of the cheaper ways into the range, from £68 depending on size and weight. For men's jewellery, the Italian Silver line is the highlight. The Classic Milan is a solid link bracelet made in Italy, from £202. The Blue Spider Net ring sets opal in an openwork silver web and comes in sizes up to 15.

The Best Sellers collection is the quickest way to see the range, with fine Italian chains from £54 up to heavy men's link bracelets costing several hundred pounds. Some product pages, such as the Classic Bangle, list the weight for each size and offer hollow and solid versions. The solid ones are heavier and cost more. Check which you're choosing before you add to basket. VY also sells through Amazon, but its own site carries the full collections and the Hot Offer reductions.

How to save more

• Work out the full cost before you check out. Add the $65 express delivery and allow for UK import VAT and any handling fee charged by the courier.

• Measure carefully with the ring and bracelet size guides. Exchanges from outside the US carry shipping costs both ways.
