Emirates Park Zoo & Resort is a privately owned zoo in Al Bahia, on the edge of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It was launched in 2008 as the first private zoo in the country and opened fully to the public in 2012. The park covers around 16 hectares, landscaped with an African feel, and is about 17 km from Zayed International Airport, around 15 minutes from Yas Island and roughly 45 minutes by road from Dubai.
The collection runs to more than 1,100 animals from over 220 species, including Asian elephants, Asiatic lions, white tigers, zebras, jaguars, sloth bears, giraffes, sea lions, parrots, hornbills and crocodiles. Visitors can join animal feeding sessions, daily talks and presentations, and book VIP encounters such as breakfast with sea lions or giraffes, or dinner experiences near the big cats and elephants. The zoo takes part in breeding programmes for endangered species and runs recycling projects, including making paper from elephant dung.
The resort side of the business lets you stay on site, which makes it an option for families who want to combine a zoo day with a short break in Abu Dhabi. The zoo is chaired by Dr Nasser Lakhreibani Al Nuaimi, with Dr Walid Shaaban as chief executive.
