About Nova Direct
Nova Direct is the trading name of Policy Excess Insure Ltd, a UK insurance firm based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. It sells what it calls value-added cover: the smaller policies that sit alongside your main car or home insurance. The range covers gadgets such as phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches, bicycles, car, van and motorcycle breakdown, home emergency, home appliances, motor excess protection, legal expenses, key cover, misfuelling and windscreen cover, plus static and touring caravans. Travel insurance is offered through a partner, JustTravelCover.com.
Everything is quoted and bought online, and you manage the policy through an online account. Its own pages give starting prices of £13.49 a year for bicycle cover, £16.50 a year for breakdown cover and £55 a year for home emergency cover; the price you pay depends on your quote. Annual premiums can be spread monthly through premium finance. Gadget cover comes in Silver, Gold and Platinum levels, and breakdown cover runs from roadside help up to Gold levels that include European cover.
Policies can be cancelled within 14 days for a full refund if you haven't claimed, but a £9.98 admin fee applies to cancellations and to most mid-term changes, and late validation of a gadget, bike or appliance also costs £9.98. The firm says it is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Claims run on a 24/7 phone line, and there's live chat on the website.
