Free delivery thresholds: when adding one more item actually saves money
£4.99 delivery or a £6 add-on you'll use anyway? A quick rule of thumb.

Free delivery thresholds are designed to nudge your basket up. Sometimes that works in your favour, and sometimes it doesn't.
The rule
Add an item only if you would have bought it in the next couple of months anyway, and its price is close to the delivery charge. If it isn't something you need, pay the delivery.
| Basket | Threshold | Delivery | Gap | Worth topping up? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| £44 | £50 | £4.99 | £6 | Yes, if it's something you need |
| £32 | £50 | £3.95 | £18 | No |
| £48 | £50 | £5.99 | £2 | Yes |
