Beauty Base is a UK fragrance and beauty retailer that sells online and through its own shops. The company has been around since 1978 and runs its website from Park Royal in north-west London. Perfume is the main draw, from designer houses such as Prada, Carolina Herrera, Rabanne and Jean Paul Gaultier to celebrity scents and a big range of oud and oriental fragrances from names like Afnan, Lattafa and Maison Alhambra.

It also has a growing skincare section with plenty of Korean beauty, including COSRX, Medicube, Beauty of Joseon and Round Lab, plus haircare from COLOR WOW and Olaplex. It suits anyone hunting for a well-known fragrance below its regular price, or a present that doesn't need a department store trip. If you're not sure what to buy, the Fragrance Finder suggests scents by note, from citrus and floral to gourmand and leather.

What's worth a look

The Rabanne 1 Million Gold Eau de Parfum Intense was one of the bigger reductions when we checked, at £69.95 against a regular £105. For a smaller spend, the COSRX Advanced Snail Gel Cleanser was £12.95, down from £22.

The Korean beauty section is split by step, with cleansers, toners and exfoliators, serums, moisturisers, sun cream, masks and eye care, plus K-beauty bundles. For presents, there are fragrance gift sets for men and women, body mists, and Beauty Base gift cards.

• Royal Mail standard delivery is free on orders over £45 to most UK addresses, or £4.95 below that. Next day delivery costs £7.99 when you order before noon, Monday to Thursday.

How to save more

• Aim for the £45 free delivery threshold: a fragrance plus a cleanser or moisturiser will often get you there.
• Large orders cost more to send. Bottles over 151ml, more than eight fragrances or more than two aerosols go by Parcelforce for £6.99, so split big gift orders if that makes sense.
• Look in the Women's Offers and Men's Offers sections of the fragrance menu as well as the main sale, since reduced scents are listed in both.
• Keep items sealed until you're sure. Unwanted items can only be returned unused and unopened, you need to email within 14 days of delivery to arrange it, and you pay the return postage.
