ChangeGroup is a currency exchange company that started in London in 1992 and has been part of Prosegur Cash, the cash-handling arm of the Spanish security group Prosegur, since 2022. In the UK it runs more than 50 bureaux de change, many at airports including Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Newcastle and East Midlands, plus city-centre branches in London, Glasgow and Bath.

It suits holidaymakers who still like to land with some cash, and anyone flying from an airport where it has a counter. The main money-saver is ordering online in advance: you lock in the online rate with no commission, then either collect from a branch or have the currency delivered. It also sells a free virtual travel money card for people who would rather pay by phone abroad.

What's worth a look

These are ChangeGroup's main UK services, with prices where the site shows them.

The Travel Money Card is a virtual card that holds up to 42 currencies, with no monthly fee on the basic plan, free top-ups and an app to switch between currencies. If you prefer cash, home delivery sends insured currency by Royal Mail, usually the next business day for orders placed before 2pm.

If you are flying from Gatwick, ChangeGroup has more than ten bureaux in the North and South terminals, in both departures and arrivals, so you can reserve online and collect on the way to your flight. London has more than 15 branches. For staying connected abroad, it sells prepaid travel eSIMs through Sim Local, with plans for Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa, and branches also offer Western Union money transfers and tax-free shopping refunds.

Reserve and collect orders need no prepayment: you pay by card or cash when you pick up.

• Order online before you go rather than buying at the airport counter on the day, so you get the online rate and no commission.
