Deiters is a German fancy dress retailer with its roots in Cologne, where carnival is taken very seriously. The family business is now in its fourth generation, has more than 30 shops across Germany, and runs what it calls the largest carnival store in the world, a 5,000 square metre shop in Frechen. Its online shop is in German, with prices in euros, and it delivers to Great Britain.

The range goes well beyond carnival. There are Christmas costumes, themed party outfits from the 1920s to the 1990s, Bavarian dirndls and lederhosen, wigs, hats, masks, make-up and decorations. It suits anyone organising a Christmas party, a work do with a dress code or a family photo in matching outfits, and it's handy if you want a wider choice of costume accessories than most UK shops carry.

The Weihnachten (Christmas) section has Santa, elf, angel, snowman, reindeer and even Christmas tree costumes for adults and children, plus small add-ons like light-up necklaces and novelty headbands. There are also Christmas decorations, Santa beards and wigs, and hats for anyone who only wants a token festive touch.

Product names and descriptions are in German, but the filters are easy to follow: Damen means women, Herren men and Kinder children, and children's sizes are listed by height in centimetres (116, 128, 140 and so on). You can pay through PayPal, including by Visa or Mastercard without a PayPal account, and returns are registered online without needing to log in.

For an easy party outfit, the reindeer antler headband with tinsel is €4.99 and the LED Christmas necklace €5.99, so a group can dress up cheaply. If you want a statement for the front garden, the 182cm inflatable snowman is €139.99. Sizes are shown on each product page, and some sizes sell out, so check availability before you plan an outfit round one piece.
