Discountlens.it is the Italian shop of Discountlens, an online contact lens retailer run by Vision Group AG from near Zurich in Switzerland. The company says Discountlens dates back to 2004, and it runs similar shops in several European countries.

One thing to know first: Discountlens.it only delivers to addresses in Italy, and the site and customer service are in Italian. It isn't a way for UK shoppers to get lenses sent home. It suits people living in Italy, or anyone with an Italian address such as a second home, who already know which lenses and prescription they need.

What's worth a look

These are six of the lenses and solutions on the site, with prices in euros as shown when we checked.

Daily lenses in 90-packs make up a lot of the bestseller list. The Dailies Total1 90 and Acuvue Oasys 1-Day with HydraLuxe 90 were both shown below their reference prices. Monthly lens wearers can pick up Biofinity, and there's a good choice of solutions, including the shop's own eversee range and Biotrue.

The site sorts lenses by brand, by type (spherical, toric for astigmatism, and multifocal) and by how long you wear them, from daily to monthly. You'll need your lens details from your optician, such as the brand, power and base curve, to order the right ones. Discountlens also sells eye drops, lens cases and reading glasses from brands such as I NEED YOU and Montana Eyewear, so you can stock up on the extras in the same order and get closer to free delivery.

Product pages show the pack size in the name, such as 30 or 90 lenses for dailies and 6 for monthlies. When you compare prices, work out the cost per lens or per month rather than looking at the pack price alone.

Current offers

• Delivery is free on orders from €99. Otherwise it costs €3.99 for Chronopost Pick up, €5.99 for Chronopost Standard or DHL, or €9.99 for DHL Warenpost.
• A lens subscription sends repeat orders at intervals you choose, with free delivery on every subscription order. There's no fixed term and you can cancel at any time.
• Many lenses show a lower price next to a higher reference price, and the sale section had a solutions bundle when we checked.

How to save more

• Buy bigger packs. A 90-pack of daily lenses often gets you close to the €99 free-delivery threshold on its own.
• If you reorder the same lenses, set up a subscription after your first order. That way every delivery is free and you won't run out.
• Spherical lenses and care products can be returned unopened within 30 days, but you pay the return postage, so double-check your prescription details before ordering.

Customer service is on the Italian freephone number 800 957 097, Monday to Friday from 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm. Company details are on the company information page.
